Axis Deer Hunts in Louisiana
Axis deer are extremely popular trophies for hunters across the United States. Native to India, axis deer were introduced into the United States in the 1930s by way of Texas ranches. The great news about this exotic game is they can be hunted year around!

Axis deer are one of the most beautiful deer you’ll ever see with some of the best venison you can eat. They are known for their reddish-brown coats with defined white spots and a mature buck has horns that are typically (but not always) 3 total points that make up a long hind tine, a shorter front tine, and a brow tine that typically angles forward. Unlike other species of deer, axis bucks shed horns at various times of the year, so you can often see some axis bucks in velvet horns at the same time you see other axis bucks in hard horns. Typically, as they age, their facial features tend to darken.
Axis deer prefer flatter terrain and try to stay in shady areas that have a good water supply nearby. The flat bottoms on our property provide a great habitat and have all the benefits of dense cover, grass to graze, and surrounded by plenty of water. This habitat makes the axis deer one of the most challenging deer to hunt within the preserve. However, the weather can be unpredictable in Louisiana. Please use the following zip code 71111 to monitor our area with your favorite National Weather Service prior to arrival.
